Uzbek’s Largest PVC Complex to Be Built in 2012

(European Plastics News) – The construction of a PVC production plant in Uzbekistan, the largest in the company, has been postponed until 2012.

The biggest producer of mineral fertilizers in Uzbekistan, Open Joint Stock Company “Navoiazot” is located in the province of Navoi (entral part of Uzbekistan). It also produces synthetic fiber “nitron”, resins, caustic soda, acetum and methanol. Building of a new nitric complex for production of 550,000 tons of ammonia and 450,000 tons of carbamide per year on the basis of the enterprise during 5 years is planned.

The construction of the new PVC complex was initially planned at the Navoiazot company, Uzbekistan’s largest chemical enterprise. However, the plans have not yet been approved by the government.

The project is a joint venture, which will be known as ISU Navoi Chemical, owned by Navoiazot and South Korea-based ISU.

Total cost of the project cost is estimated at US $190m. Funding will come from the Uzbek Fund for Reconstruction and Development as well as foreign investments.

According to initial plans, the construction of the complex should be completed in 2012, while the design capacity of the plant is 50,000 tonnes of PVC and 32,000 tonnes of caustic soda.

The plant also plans to commission new production of potassium nitrate, additionally to existing capacities. In the first phase, the capacity of new technologic line will make up 20,000 tonnes a year. Later, the capacities will rose by 3,000 tonnes a year.

Navoiazot started to supply chemical reagents to gold-mining enterprises of Uzbekistan in 2009-2010. The capacity of the facility is 1,400 tonnes of thiourea, 1,000 tonnes of polyacrylamide gel and 17,000 tonnes of cyanic sodium a year.

Navoiazot open joint stock company is largest chemical plant of Uzbekistan. Navoiazot started its activity in 1964 as the plant on production of mineral fertilizers. The plant is leading producer of mineral fertilizers in Uzbekistan, products of organic synthesis and nitron fiber.

On technical equipment and the volume of production, Navoiazot OJSC is leader of chemical industry of Uzbekistan, which produces over 70 types of goods.
