TASHKENT (UzReport) — The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev intends to take a critical look today at measures to support small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), as well as the implementation of this year’s employment programme. The discussion will take the form of a traditional video conference call.
Last year, the government allocated about 120 tln sums in loans and financial support to small businesses. Largely due to this, it was possible to restore the activities of 104,000 enterprises affected by the pandemic and increase the working capital of private enterprises by 33%.
However, in some areas, the support measures do not meet the requirements of business and the government. That is why the President intends to dismiss a number of executives at various levels. In addition, the head of state is expected to define new measures to support business and employment of citizens.

Things are going badly in Uzbekistan and they are getting nervous. So they fire some people and replace them with others who are not going to do better. The problems are structural.

The former Soviet republics still fail to develop a market economy. The large enterprises are either controlled by the government or stolen by a Mafia oligarchy. Perhaps the priority should be to help farms and craftsmen.
