Mobile Phone Coverage in Uzbekistan Reaches 98%.

TASHKENT (Satrapia) — More than 31,700 mobile communication cell site (cellular base station or Base Transceiver Station — BTS) have been installed and put into service, in Uzbekistan, according to the Uzbek Ministry of Information and Communication. As a result, mobile coverage of urban areas has reached 98% in the country.

The Ministry intends to bring the mobile coverage indicator to 99% by increasing the total number of cell sites to 33,700.

Some 5,641 cell sites have been commissioned in Uzbekistan in recent years. Some 3,600 2G base stations have been upgraded to 3G/4G standards by 2020. Until 2020, work has mainly focused on the geographical extension of mobile networks. Current efforts are underway to expand network coverage and provide Internet services based on 3G/4G technologies. Around 3,600 basic 2G stations were modernized into 3G/4G standards in 2020.
