Uzbekistan to Host International Cotton Fair

TASHKENT (UzA) — Tashkent will host XI International Uzbek Cotton Fair October 15-16 aiming to active the promotion of Uzbek cotton on the world market.
Measures are taken in Surkhandarya region for the preparation for the fair in order to ensure the ginning factories with modern equipment, increasing capacity utilization, volume of products capable of competing on the world cotton market.
Angorpakhta JSC, which was renovated and equipped with modern facilities under the government program, received nearly 25,000 tons of cotton grown in Termez and Angora areas from the beginning of the season and processed more than 4 million tons of raw materials, the message said. Particular importance is attached to the preservation of fibre quality and increasing production efficiency of the enterprise.
The chairman of the Angorpakhta JSC Rustam Rakhmonov said that technical and technological renewal of the enterprise conducted three years ago provided the opportunity to increase production capacity and processing volumes up to 40,000 tons per year.
Work efficiency has increased, while energy consumption decreased by 25%, he said. As a result, the company manufactures fibre, which is fully compliant with demands of the global market, and seeds are being procured for the next year’s harvest.
Cotton processing is carried out in other areas of the region, climatic conditions of which make it possible to grow early maturing varieties of cotton with a durable fibre, according to the message.
In 2015, Uzbekistan has grown a rich cotton crop on 119.6 hectares of fields. Currently, Uzbekistan pays great attention to cotton harvesting as soon as possible and to its processing quality. It was previously reported that more than 3.4 million tons of cotton were harvested in Uzbekistan in 2014.
