Uzbekistan Expands Fibre Optical Network Capacity

A fibre network of over 2,400 km has been deployed in Uzbekistan in the first quarter. Telecom service volumes grew by 24.7%.

The country’s Internet gateway capacity grew by 17% since the beginning of the year to 19.250 Gbps. The gateway access rate for operators and ISPs has been reduced by 10% to $233.27/Mbps since the beginning of the year.

Uzbek Internet users are enjoying cheaper and faster access than they have ever known. Starting August 1 of last year, the maximum Internet speed in Uzbekistan reached 11.8 Gbps. Internet speeds in Uzbekistan have increased almost six-fold during the past 10 years, according to Netindex.com. From an average 0.46 Mbps in 2004, the figure has grown to 2.94 Mbps in August, 2014.
