Uzbekistan: $1.7bln of Deficit in Foreign Trade during January-May

TASHKENT (UzReport) — According to preliminary data of the Uzbek State Statistics Committee, the foreign trade turnover in January-May 2018 amounted to $14.7 bln, consisting of $6.5 bln exports and $8.2 bln. The foreign trade balance shows a deficit of $1.7 bln.
Export of energy and petroleum products increased by 64.3% compared to the same period last year. The volume of exports of food products increased by 60.9%.
The share of textile exports in total exports amounted to 8.3%. The volume of textile exports amounted to $536.5 mln, 15.3% up year-on-year.
The volume of exports of fruits and vegetables amounted to $305.4 mln, 73.8% up year-on-year. The physical volume of exports of fruits and vegetables amounted to 434,500 tons, 88.7% up year-on-year.
In the structure of imports, the main share is accounted for machinery and equipment (33.7%), and chemical products and products from it (11.5%).
In the same period of January-May 2018, the balance of foreign trade with the CIS countries made up $-887.6 mln and with other countries $-844.2 mln.
Among the CIS countries, the main foreign trade partners are Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which account for 27.5% of foreign trade turnover, among other countries are China, Turkey, the Republic of Korea, Afghanistan, Germany, Latvia, Iran, France, which account for 32.1% of total foreign trade turnover.
