TASHKENT (TASS) – Acoording to Alexander Merten, the head of Rusatom-International Network, the most modern nuclear power plant will be built in Uzbekistan.
“The most modern, meeting all safety standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) NPP will be constructed in Uzbekistan, the guaranteed operation of the power unit is designed for 60 years with the possibility of extension for 20 years, the station’s capacity will be one fifth of the total electricity generated in the country”, TASS cites the words of A. Merten, welcoming the participants of the joint seminar of the IAEA mission and the working group of Rosatom.

- WWER-1000 (or VVER-1000 as a direct transliteration of Russian ВВЭР-1000) is a 1000 MWe Russian nuclear power reactor of PWR type.
He stated this at a seminar dedicated to the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan and organized by the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom with the assistance of the Agency for the Development of Nuclear Energy Uzatom.
As noted in an interview with the media, A. Merten, the future NPP which is being built using Russian technologies, will be built for 8-10 years. Construction of nuclear power plants is planned in the territory of Navoi region. The launch of the project is expected to take place on October 19 during the official visit to Uzbekistan of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Uzbekistan on cooperation in the construction of nuclear power plants was signed on September 7, 2018 in Moscow. For the construction of nuclear power plants, Uzbekistan chose the Russian generation VVER-1200 “3+” reactor, which is successfully operated both in Russia and abroad, it meets all safety standards and the requirements of the IAEA.
