TASHKENT (Interfax) - The Uzbek government, Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are working on an agreement for the design, construction and operation of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Uzbekistan, the head of Uzbekenergo’s strategic development department Eso Sadullayev told journalists.

Last May, Uzbekistan proposed Russia to build a nuclear power plant in the Navoi region. Earlier, a deal was signed by Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Alexei Likhachev and the Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Nodir Otazhonov

The agreement created a legal basis for bilateral cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan regarding the peaceful use of atomic energy.
