India, Uzbekistan ink 34 pacts; discuss terrorism, Afghanistan

NEW DELHI: India and Uzbekistan on Wednesday announced strategic partnership between the two countries. They discussed issues like terrorism, Afghanistan and a greater cooperation within Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) that holds the key to peace and stability in energy-rich Central Asia. A statement issued after the meeting between PM Manmohan Singh and visiting Uzbek President Islam Karimov said the two countries signed 34 pacts, including those in the field of IT, pharmaceuticals and hydrocarbons.
