High School Graduates in Uzbekistan Could Enter Universities with no Exams

TASHKENT (Satrapia) — Uzbekistan’s technical high school graduates will soon be able to enter universities without an exam.

According to the Ministry of Justice, Presidential Decree N° 5812 of 6 September 2019 on additional measures to improve the vocational education system has been adopted. According to this decree, from the academic year 2020-2021 onwards, a network of educational institutions will be established in Uzbekistan with the creation of a new primary, specialized secondary vocational education system and differentiated educational programmes in accordance with the International Classification levels, with the approval of the list of educational institutions preparing students.

In addition, the decree determines that 388 buildings of vocational training schools will be used as schools in accordance with the corresponding list.

Thus, within the primary and secondary specialized vocational education system, a network of vocational education institutions is established, including vocational schools, colleges and technical schools, where appropriate educational programmes will be put in place.

At the same time, in vocational schools, graduates of the 9th year will receive two days of training per week on a full-time basis, a monthly grant equivalent to the amount of their basic salary and three meals per day from the State budget.

In colleges, people with at least general secondary education, depending on the complexity of professions and specialties, receive state training and are on paid contract in the form of full-time, evening and distance learning for a period of up to 2 years.

In technical schools, graduates of general secondary education are taught, on commission and on contract, in the form of full-time, evening and correspondence courses for at least two years, depending on the complexity of the professions and specialities. Graduates of technical schools have the right to continue their studies, study in higher education institutions in relevant fields of undergraduate education from the 2nd year onwards without having to pass the entrance examinations on the basis of an individual interview.
