ZURICH (FIFA) – FIFA says Uzbekistan is unable to host the Women’s Under-20 World Cup next year.

Clash between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Uzbekistan won the match 3-0.

FIFA says its executive committee took away Uzbekistan’s hosting rights because of “a number of logistical and technical issues”. Uzbekistan had been awarded the 16-nation tournament in March.

However, FIFA expressed its thanks to the Football Association of Uzbekistan (UFF) for their efforts and commitment. The FIFA Executive Committee took the decision to compensate the UFF by organising another FIFA event, not necessarily a women’s competition, whenever it becomes possible in the future or by awarding the UFF new development projects.

Japan has been proposed as the new host for the competition. Formal confirmation of this will be made, upon receipt by FIFA of the Japanese government guarantees.
