TASHKENT (TASS) — The Russian state-owned company Rosatom is still waiting for a decision from the Uzbek authorities on the construction site of the country’s first nuclear power plant, but hopes that the problem will be resolved quickly.
“We expect a decision on the site in the near future”, said Alexei Likhachev, head of the state company on the sidelines of the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi, asking whether the site had been chosen for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.
It should be recalled that the intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Uzbekistan on the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Navoi region was signed in September 2018. The project includes the construction of two generators equipped with VVER-1200 reactors. In October 2018, during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Uzbekistan, the presidents of both countries launched the project. The first reactor is expected to be launched before the end of 2028.
