The Taliban Deny Receiving Weapons from Iran
KABUL (Iran.ru) — The Afghan Taliban movement has posted a statement on its website refuting American allegations that it received weapons from Iran.
Afghan Taliban spokesman Yusuf Ahmadi said his organization firmly denies recent statements by US officials on Iran’s arms procurement, reported Mehr News. He said that the Taliban had arms depots located in different parts of Afghanistan, and that most modern weapons have been confiscated in conflicts with enemies.
According to the Taliban spokesman, the United States is seeking to divert global public attention from its failures in Afghanistan by making such “baseless claims”. Ahmadi also urged the United States to accept as a reality its defeat in Afghanistan.
A few days ago, the US Special Envoy to Afghanistan, Brian Hook, presented weapons to the US State Department, claiming that they had been transferred to the Taliban by Iran. However, the Iranian Embassy in Kabul responded to the US official’s accusation by stating that these actions were intended to worsen Iranian-Afghan relations.
