KABUL (Ruptly) – Recovery work was underway in northern Kabul on Sunday after a number of parked tanker trucks caught fire overnight claiming the lives of seven and leaving at least 14 injured.
An investigation is currently in progress to determine the exact cause of the deadly incident, with the ministry of interior refuting the possibility of potential terrorist activity.
An eyewitness said
An explosion occurred and then a flame was raised. The second explosion was the same as the first one, with a flame raising also. And when the third one happened, a big flame also appeared and finally four explosions and the fourth explosion took place over there, near a tanker, and the tanker set fire to the whole parking lot>
Another local said:
I was resting in my room. That vehicle exploded first, some people say it was an explosion and many others say someone fired at the tankers, so I can see a reason. As the flame of the fire increased, the firemen arrived after an hour when everything had already been burnt.
The country is on a high-security alert following the US and NATO’s decision to officially begin withdrawal of troops from the country and a car bomb incident having taken place in the Logar district on Saturday, resulting in the death and injury of dozens.
