Russian and Uzbek Military Help to Guard Borders between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan

(Chronicles of Turkmenistan) – Troops from Russia and Uzbekistan are helping Turkmenistan guard its border against militant incursions from Afghanistan, a Turkmen exile website reports, citing residents of border areas.

About a month ago at the border appeared and military instructors from Russia. Obviously, the Turkmen authorities have appealed to the leadership of the Russian Federation for help in guarding the border with Afghanistan, the situation in which, with the onset of warm season is heating up.

Now, according to the report on Chronicles of Turkmenistan, residents of Afghan border villages have recently noticed the presence on Turkmen territory border units from Uzbekistan.

Recently, Turkmen media reported on a telephone conversation between the presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. It was noted that “the two sides exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international issues of mutual interest.” Some rumours say it was about the potential threat from Afghanistan and the cooperation to prevent it.

Last week, a group of conscripts from Esenguly (village located in the west of Turkmenistan) was transferred to Tagtabazar – a village not far from the Turkmen-Afghan border. They are mainly soldiers who have already served half or more of their two years duty.
