PESHAWAR (Pajhwok Afghan News) — Pakistan’s imports from Afghanistan have risen by 117.9% to reach $118.48 mln in the 11 months, the central bank of Pakistan said on Tuesday.
In the previous fiscal year, imports from the neighbouring country accounted for $54.355 mln, the latest data from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said. Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan rose by 31.02% to $1.402 bln, compared with $1.07 bln in same period of the preceding year.
Exports to Afghanistan increased to $119.571 mln in May 2018 — up from 115.649 mln in the same month of previous year. The growth worked out 3.43%. The imports also witnessed an increase of 169% which rose to $10.683 in May 2018 against the imports worth of $3.97 mln in same month of last year.
The export of services to Afghanistan also increased by 76% to $17.87 from $10.15 mln during same period of last year. According to the SBP data, the import of services from Afghanistan increased to $13.58 mln from $9.9 mln during same period of the preceding year. On yearly basis, the export of services declined from $727,000 in May 2017 to $502,000 in 2018, showing a decline of 30.9%. But the import of services from Afghanistan increased by 44.26% to $1.15nbsp;mln in May 2018 from $0.641 mln in same month of the previous year.
