ASHGABAT –Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and visiting Afghan President Hamid Karzai agreed on a new communiqué and co-operation treaty on transport, humanitarian matters and electricity following a May 28 meeting, CA-NEWS.org reported May 30.

Hamid Karzai emphasised the importance to his country of construction of the planned Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline. Turkmen workers will build a system that allows Afghanistan to receive five times more Turkmen gas than it does now, Berdymukhamedov said.

Agreements signed by Turkmen and Afghan officials covered co-operation between their chambers of trade and industry; further co-operation in electricity; construction of a 150km railway between their countries; and cultural, journalistic and tourism co-operation, media reported.
