TEHRAN (Tasnim) — President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed his country’s determination to promote cooperation with Iran.
In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Ashgabat on Thursday, Berdimuhamedov voiced support for the political, economic and cultural relations with Iran. Zarif is in Turkmenistan on the final leg of his tour of Central Asia that took him to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
The Turkmen ruler also reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s resolve to enhance cooperation with Iran.
For his part, the top Iranian diplomat expounded on various aspects of relations between Tehran and Ashgabat in the political, economic and cultural fields, and highlighted the significance of ties between the two neighbours.
Iran is one of Turkmenistan’s main gas importers.

This is very hypocritical. Berdimuhamedov doesnt like the islamic regime in Iran. In his own country he cracks down on islamists ruthlessly.

Turkmenistan is Sunni while Iran is Shiite. Also, there is a Turkmen minority in Iran that is persecuted because they are Sunni.
