ASHGHABAT (Satrapia) — Three years after the interruption of Turkmen gas exports to Russia, the state-owned Turkmengaz company has declared that it has resumed gas exports to Gazprom and Russia.
It is the result of nearly 7 months of negotiations. Yesterday, the Turkmen government claimed that gas exports to Russia had resumed, reported the official Turkmen media Orient.tm. The Russian gas company Gazprom will be the main buyer of Turkmen gas.
Turkmengaz and Gazprom did not communicate on the volume or price of Turkmen gas to be delivered to Russia. According to Orient.tm “deliveries have resumed under the current 25-year contract, dating from 2003”, describing the cessation of Turkmen gas imports, undertaken by Gazprom in 2016, as a “commercial break”. Podrobno points out that gas to Russia transits through Uzbekistan under an agreement between Uztransgaz and Gazprom Schweiz.
