DUSHANBE (Avesta news agency) — The wholesale and retail trade turnover in Tajikistan in the first eight months of this year amounted to more than 19.9 bln somoni (over $1.9 bln), down 7% from the same period in 2019.
As reported to Avesta at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the country, more than 7.2 bln somoni worth of products were sold in the food, clothing and mixed goods markets for the period under review, representing 36.5% of the total retail turnover.
At the same time, in January-August 2020, revenues from the sale of animals amounted to more than 1.5 bln somoni, petroleum products about 3.1 bln somoni, trucks and cars 395.9 mln million somoni.
The share of food products in the total volume of trade amounted to more than 8.3 bln somoni or 49.1%, non-food products more than 8.6 bln somoni or 50.9%.
In percentage terms, the food sector is dominated by meat and sausages, sugar and confectionery, flour and bread, vegetables and vegetable oil.
Among the products of the non-food sector, the largest share goes to petroleum products, fabrics, knitwear, building materials, shoes and electrical goods.
For the specified period, the volume of retail trade per Tajik citizen averaged 2,000,116 somoni.
