Keywords: CASA-1000
DUSHNABE (Avesta news agency) - Within the framework of the visit of the Afghan delegation led by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Hanif Atmar, Tajikistan and Afghanistan discussed issues of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, and also exchanged views on the situation in the region and the world.
As part of the previous day’s meeting, on September 17, a session of Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Mukhriddin with his Afghan counterpart Hanif Atmar was held in Dushanbe.
One of the priority areas of cooperation between the two countries is the energy sector. Tajikistan declares its readiness to take the necessary measures to ensure and increase the regular supply of electricity to neighbouring Afghanistan. In this regard, cooperation between the two countries is of great importance in the joint implementation of the CASA-1000 regional project as soon as possible.
Tajikistan is also seeking to build new transport corridors between the two countries and to implement mutually beneficial regional projects. To this end, Tajikistan fully supports the creation of the KTAI transit corridor (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran) and provides all necessary facilities for its smooth operation.
As part of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan railway program, the Jaloliddin Rumi-Nizhniy Pyanj railway project and a bridge over the Pyanj River to Kunduz have been approved and their construction will start in the near future. It will be part of the railway between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran and will be connected to the North-South international transport corridor.
