DUSHANBE (Avesta news agency) — Tajikistan plans to increase its production of power transformers by renovating an existing plant and setting up a new venture.
Considering the development of the Republic’s energy sector and the growing demand from neighbouring countries, it is planned to increase the production of transformers of different capacities through the modernisation of the national manufacturer as well as the creation of a joint venture with foreign investors.
By attracting foreign investment, it is planned to upgrade the factory in the city of Bokhtar, Khatlon region, and to create a new joint venture in the Sughd region. “For the reconstruction of the Bokhtar factory, negotiations are under way with investors from different countries. Above all, Chinese investors are interested in the project and have direct experience in the production of similar products as well as a sales market”, said one source.
The same source also indicated that the possibility of creating a joint venture for the production of transformers with Uzbek investors in the north of the republic was being considered.
It should be recalled that there is an electrical transformer factory in the Khatlon region, known as Kurgan-Tyube since the time of the Soviet Union. Since the beginning of this year, this plant has manufactured 126 power transformer units, 51.8% more than in January-April last year.
