Tajik Somoni Has Lost 2.6% against USD

DUSHANBE (Asia-Plus) – The Tajik national currency, the somoni (TJS), has lost 2.6% of its value against the dollar (USD) over the past week. Tajik central bank notes that the somoni lost 10.2% of its value against the dollar last year.

The value of TJS has continued to depreciate against USD, registering an average market purchase rate of the dollar against the somoni 1:6.0525 on March 5, up from 1:5.92 on February 26. According to data from the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), the market exchange rate between USD and TJS in Dushanbe increased from 1:5.94 on February 26 to 1:6.04 on March 5, with similar exchange rate rises in other parts of the country.

In Khujand, the capital of Sughd province, the market exchange rate between USD and TJS increased from 1:5.97 on February 26 to 1:6.12 on March 5.

In Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province, the market exchange rate between USD and TJS increased from 1:5.97 on February 26 to 1:6.05 on March 5.

In Kulob (Khatlon province), the market exchange rate between USD and TJS increased from 1:5.80 on February 26 to 1:6.00 on March 5.

In Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), the market exchange rate between USD and TJS increased from 1:5.55 on February 26 to 1:5.70 on March 5.

Meanwhile, an official exchange rate between USD and TJS set by the National Bank of Tajikistan fell from 1:5.4555 on February 26 to 1:5.45 on March 5.
