DUSHANBE — The board of the Sughd regional court decided to release Khayrullo Mirsaidov, who was previously sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Khudjand court.

On July 11 this year the court of Khujand City sentenced Mirsaidov to 12 years of imprisonment, having found him guilty of misappropriation or embezzlement of public funds, forgery of documents and knowingly false denunciation.

After the announcement of the verdict, the journalist’s family paid 124,000 somoni for the benefit of the state in compensation for the damage determined by the investigative authorities.

After that, the lawyers filed a cassation on the revision of the sentence of the Khujand City Court. The cassation hearing was to be held on August 15, but it was postponed until August 22.
