DUSHANBE (Asia-Plus) — Currency-exchange points of some local banks in Tajikistan have stopped selling U.S. dollars due to shortage of the U.S. currency. This shortage has led to devaluation of the national currency, the somoni.

The official exchange rate of the somoni decreased by one point against the US dollar. The official rate set by the National Bank of the country yesterday, 3 January, is 1 dollar to 9 Somoni and 43 dirham,

It should be recalled that Somoni in 2018 depreciated by 6.9% against the dollar and, on the contrary, it strengthened by 11% against the rouble
