MOSCOW (TASS) — Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon in Moscow on Wednesday. Russian Ambassador to Dushanbe Igor Lyakin-Frolov said that “the main emphasis at talks will be made on trade and economic cooperation”.

Rahmon is currently in Moscow on a two-day visit.

“The sides will discuss key issues of bilateral relations and measures for further development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian, and other spheres. They will exchange opinions on pressing regional issues as well”, the Kremlin press service said.

“The main emphasis at talks will be made on trade and economic cooperation”, Russian Ambassador to Dushanbe Igor Lyakin-Frolov told TASS. Other priorities in bilateral relations include military and political cooperation, Lyakin-Frolov said.

He added that Moscow and Dushanbe cooperate not only on a bilateral basis but also in international formats, such as the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The ambassador reminded that Russia’s 201st military base is stationed in Tajikistan to ensure security in the region. “There are various threats coming from bordering Afghanistan, such as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, illegal migration. We are protecting the security of both Tajikistan and Russia here”, he noted.
