ISLAMABAD (The News International) — Pakistan is proposing a “reverse flow” system to Tajikistan as part of the CASA-1000 regional project.
Pakistan would like to include an article on reverse flow in the power purchase agreement. Pakistani engineers intend to discuss this issue with their Tajik counterparts. Thus, Islamabad decided, after its launch, that the CASA-1000 inter-regional power line exports electricity to Tajikistan during the winter shortage. It remains for economists in Tajikistan to analyse the cost-effectiveness of the Pakistani proposal.
CASA-1000 is a project to supply electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is expected that 70% of this electricity will come from Tajikistan and 30% from Kyrgyzstan.
However, the practical implementation of the project is delayed due to the delay in the selection of contractors. According to the most optimistic forecasts, this project is expected to be completed by 2021.
