DUSHANBE (Asia-Plus) – Top manager of Dushanbe-based private enterprise Ozod-Oil LLC has got a long jail term for tax evasion. A court in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district sentenced Sadriddin Karimov to seven years in prison on March 11. Karimov will serve his term a high-security penal colony.

Judge Safarbek Nouralizoda, who presided over the trial, says the sentence followed Karimov’s conviction on charges of tax evasion (Article 292 [2] of Tajikistan’s Penal Code). The court also imposed a 2,451,861-somoni fine on Karimov.

“Karimov’s jail term was reduced by a third in accordance with the amnesty declared on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Constitution”, the judge said.
