DUSHANBE — Germany is studying the possibility of building small hydroelectric power plants in Tajikistan.

Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Germany, Sohibnazar Gairatsho, met with the Co-Chair of the Tajik-German Intergovernmental Commission for Financial and Technical Cooperation, Katri Ollers, and the representative of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Klaus Tansberger. At the meeting, the parties paid particular attention to the possibility to build a hydroelectric power plant in the Murgab district, stressing the need to continue bilateral cooperation in the development of hydropower.

The German side indicated that it was exploring the possibility of financing the construction of small hydropower plants in the mountainous regions of Tajikistan and expressed its interest in attracting national companies for the implementation of such projects.

Medical care and access to education in order to improve the social situation of the population were also discussed. This meeting was held on the eve of the Tajik-German intergovernmental consultations scheduled for this year in the city of Dushanbe.
