DUSHANBE (Asia-Plus) – The Majlisi Namoyandagon (مجلس نمایندگان) deputies ratified unanimously a government-to-government financial protocol between Tajikistan and France on the project for construction of a new terminal at the Dushanbe airport of May 1, 2009 and additional agreement to this protocol of June 29, 2012.
- Dushanbe International Airport (IATA: DYU, ICAO: UTDD) is located at the south-west of the city. It was built in 1924 and was the first one in the country. The current complex dates back to 1964 and was renovated several times. East Air, Somon Air and Tajik Air have their main hub in Dushanbe airport.
Speaking on this subject, MP Ismoil Talbakov noted that the financial protocol provides for increase in Tajikistan’s contribution to the project from 7 to €19 million while France’s contribution to the project remains the same – €20 million.
The project for the construction of an international terminal at the Dushanbe airport is being implemented under financial support of France. France has provided Tajikistan a long-term, low interest €20 million loan to fund the construction of the terminal.
The overall space of the international terminal at the Dushanbe airport is expected to be 11,000 m² and it will able to receive more than 5,000 passengers per hour. Specialists say the project will bring the Dushanbe airport up to international air traffic standards.
