Dozens of Illegal Exchange Points Closed in Tajikistan in 2018

DUSHANBE (TajikTA) — In his report to the upper house of the Tajik Parliament, the Attorney General, Yusuf Ahmadzoda, said that over the past year, law enforcement agencies have identified and suspended the activities of 15 illegal exchange points. . The Attorney General noted that during the monitoring of compliance and implementation of the Currency Regulation and Control Act, 326 offences were identified. According to him, 104 criminal cases and 222 administrative offences were brought against the offenders and 15 illegal currency exchange points were closed.
Until the beginning of 2016, bureaux de change were open to both natural persons and legal entities. Since then, in accordance with the new legislation, the exchange can only be carried out in authorised bank branches. For illegal foreign exchange transactions, administrative and criminal liability is provided for according to the seriousness of the offences.
