DUSHANBE — On the eve of the Day of the State Language, celebrated in Tajikistan on October 5, three deputies of the lower house of the Parliament decided to change their names by omitting their Russian suffixes.

“The deputies decided to change their names as a sign of respect for the state language”, the lower house of parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan confirmed.

In particular, deputy Mutrazokulov Jamshed Saydaliyevich became Murtazozoda Jamshed Saidali; Radjabov Ravshan Mukhitdinovich — Rajabzoda Ravshan Mukhitdin; Kholikov Hokim Hikmatulloevich — Holikzoda Hokim Hikmatullo.

For some years now, the process of de-ressufication (politely called “de-Sovetization”) of names and surnames has been going on in Tajikistan.
