DUSHANBE (Avesta News Agency) – China Global new Technology imp. & exp. may invest $500 mln in the construction of metallurgical centre in the north of Tajikistan. The plant will produce metallurgic products, as well as sulphate acid.

Last week, the vice-president of China Global new Technology imp. & Exp. Company Jang Ji Yuen was in Dushanbe and met the Minister of Energy and Industry Sherali Gul and Head of State Investment Committee of Tajikistan, Davlatali Seyidov. At the issue of these meetings, China Global announced its intention to invest some US $500 mln in this project

As Avesta was told at the press centre of Energy and Industry Ministry, the meetings were focused on the question of the construction of a second production line and to bring up to 2 mln tons the production capacity of the concentrator. The concentrating mill of the Tajik-Chinese Mining Company has currently a capacity of processing up to one million tons of ore per year. The plant produces lead and zinc concentrates. Some 500 people, with 70% of them being Tajik nationals, work for the Tajik-Chinese Mining Company.

According to the source, the Minister of Energy and Industry said that it is necessary to accelerate the construction of the metallurgical processing plant, power lines, and exploration in the field Zarnisor (زرنثار) in Tajikistan.

“In his turn, the Vice-President of China Global new Technology imp. & Exp company Jang Ji Yuen promised that the company would take concrete steps to implement these issues”, said the source. According to investors, the plans regarding the construction of the factory have already been conformed in headquarters of the company in Shanghai.
