DUSHANBE - Currently, 61 Tajik citizens are studying in Wuhan, 18 of whom have returned for the winter holidays, Ilhom Kamolzoda, head of the international relations department of the Ministry of Education and Science, told the press on Friday.

“According to our latest data, 43 Tajiks are currently in Wuhan”, Kamolzoda said, adding, “Some Tajik students from Wuhan have returned to Tajikistan for the winter holidays, which last about two months. According to data from our embassy in China, most of the students remaining in the city are studying at three different universities: Wuhan State University, the Geological Institute and the University of Science and Technology.”

According to him, these universities are currently being shifted to a special mode of functioning. “Our students receive free food while they are in their dormitories. We have no information on the evacuation of Tajik students in China. Our embassy is taking all measures to evacuate them from China”, Kamolzoda added.

On the issue of the coronovirus in particular, Tajikistan’s Minister of Education and Science, Mahmadyusuf Imomzoda, assured that he is in permanent contact with the Tajik Embassy in China and the special headquarters established by the Ministry of Health. He noted that the issue of students in China had been discussed at a government meeting and that today the next government meeting will take place, where their fate will be discussed. “Every Tajik citizen in China, including students, is the subject of special attention by the government”, the Minister of Education stressed. Meanwile, according to data provided by the Embassy of Tajikistan in China, up to 3,500 Tajiks are studying in China to date.
