Karachi Streets Deserted as COVID Lockdown Kicks Off
KARACHI (Ruptly) — The streets of Karachi were seen deserted as a stricter lockdown, aimed at curbing the coronavirus infections, kicked off, Sunday.
Just a handful of people were seen walking, with some vehicles driving, as the majority of streets were empty, with stores closed. The lockdown has started on May 9 and is expected to last until May 16. The lockdown will also be in place amid the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr on 12-13 of May.
Pakistan has registered more than 858,000 cases of the coronavirus, with 18,915 officialy registered deaths with the disease, according to Johns Hopkins University.
