TEHRAN (Ruptly) — Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif cancelled his trip to Austria, after the Austrian chancellery and foreign ministry buildings flew Israeli flags in a display of solidarity with Israel as tensions escalate in the region.

Zarif was expected to meet with his counter-part Alexander Schallenberg on Saturday.

Speaking to the press on Monday Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran proudly stands by the oppressed people of Palestine. We are sorry that some European countries have decided to stand by the oppressor and the criminal.”

“Of course, our relations with countries will not be affected by the third factor. We continue our relations with countries. Including Iran-Austria relations. But our decision is a firm decision to always support the legitimate and moral resistance of the Palestinian people”, he added.

Regarding Vienna nuclear talks Khatibzadeh denied there was a preliminary agreement stating, "there is no such thing as a preliminary agreement. No agreement is reached unless everything is agreed upon."

Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson (Persian):

"During Dr Zarif’s European tour, some trips were being finalised, including a trip to Austria. We decided not to make this trip considering all the circumstances. Dr Zarif did not consider this trip expedient. The Islamic Republic of Iran proudly stands by the oppressed people of Palestine. We are sorry that some European countries have decided to stand by the oppressor and the criminal. Of course, our relations with countries will not be affected by the third factor. We continue our relations with countries. Including Iran-Austria relations. But our decision is a firm decision to always support the legitimate and moral resistance of the Palestinian people.

To date, Austria has hosted the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters as well as these talks, and bilateral relations between Iran and Austria will not be affected by the third factor. These two paths are different. Our decision on Palestine is a final decision.

The issue of Palestine is the first issue of the Islamic world. The Palestinian cause is a lofty aspiration pursued by the free nations of the world over the past few decades. And one of the important messages of the Islamic Revolution is to support the oppressed people of Palestine, and this has always been considered as the main priority of the foreign policy in this area. Unfortunately, some normalisation shows were aimed at forgetting the first issue of the Islamic world. But the same developments in the occupied territories showed that no show can marginalise the first issue of the Islamic world.

Unfortunately, we are witnessing excessive inaction on the part of some countries, shameful biases in favour of the criminal. There is no reputation left for false human rights claimants. Those who do not see more than 200 defenceless and oppressed Palestinians being bombed in a national prison in Gaza, more than 50 innocent children are martyred, dozens of women, old men, and women are the victims of this brutality of the Israeli child-killing regime. If they do not see these, they will not see anything in this world. Rest assured that these double standards have not left any reputations for them. We regret that these days we are witnessing such atrocities and crimes by the occupying regime in Jerusalem, and on the other hand, the shameful accompaniment by some countries and organisations that falsely claim human rights.

Talks are still ongoing. All three working groups have done their job. A significant percentage of the remaining brackets in these working groups have been completed, agreements have been reached, a percentage of these brackets require political decisions, which must be made in the capitals. There is no such thing as a preliminary agreement. No agreement is reached unless everything is agreed upon.

  • The Chinese fleet kills Iranians by shooting drowning fishermen and the regime has nothing to say, but when Palestinians are involved, they do much more than the Arabs themselves.
