BAGHDAD (Ruptly) — At least one person was killed and hundreds were injured in Baghdad on Wednesday, after clashes broke out between anti-government protesters and the country’s security forces for a second day in a row.
The police reportedly fired live ammunition and tear gas when the protesters attempted to storm Baghdad’s Green Zone, which is home to government buildings, prompting the Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to declare a curfew.
Reports suggest that at least six others have been killed across the country, as the protest spread to Najaf, Nasiriyah, Basra and Diwaniyah, with thousands of people marching on the streets to denounce corruption, unemployment and poor standard of living in the country.
