Zarif Meets EU Foreign Policy Chief in New Delhi
NEW DELHI (EBS Pool via Ruptly) — Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss the latest developments around Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The talks were the first held face to face since a US airstrike killed top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani on January 3, and were held on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi.
The meeting came only days after France, Germany, and the UK formally accused Iran of breaking the JCPOA and triggered the Dispute Resolution Mechanism (DRM), with the EU’s Borrell reportedly describing them as “frank”.
However, despite triggering the DRM, France, Britain and Germany declared that they will not join the US campaign to exert maximum pressure on Tehran.
