LONDON (Ruptly) — Former Prime Minister of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Al-Thani shared his views on the conflict in Syria, the Khashoggi case and the leadership of Saudi Arabia, while speaking to RT in London on Thursday.

According to the former prime minister, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia “had to have highly professional advisers, because in fact in Saudi Arabia there are professionals who are not in many other countries, people who, if they were given freedom of action and guaranteed security, could fully express their opinions.”

“If those around you live in an atmosphere of fear, it is very dangerous”, he added.

While discussing the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, he claimed that “this is an extremely serious problem that requires a wilful decision to find out who is responsible for it […] For a month or even twenty days, four versions were put forward by the Saudi authorities, which indicates their confusion.”.

The Qatari ex-prime minister also talked about the crisis in Syria.

In his opinion, “if the establishment of power control led to recovery, stability, elections, etc., then in this case we would probably recognise that we were wrong in considering his [Syrian President Bashar al-Assad] actions to be wrong, because in fact he was striving to restore his country.”
