WASHINGTON (DW News) — The United States and Iran have sharply escalated their war of words over attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman that the US claims were perpetrated by Tehran.

The US military has released a video it says shows members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard attaching limpet mines to the tankers before the explosions. The ships had departed from Saudi Arabia and had passed through the Strait of Hormuz. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also alleged Tehran was behind the blasts. However, Iran says the US allegations are baseless and has accused Washington of war mongering.
