CAIRO (TASS) — The area near Baghdad’s Green Zone was targeted by a missile attack early Tuesday, reports Iraqi television Alsumaria TV.

According to the channel, two missiles exploded near the area of the Iraqi capital where state agencies and foreign diplomatic missions, including the U.S. Embassy, are located. Simultaneously, air-raid sirens went off at the time of the attack.

The missiles failed to hit their targets and fell near the Green Zone. “One of the missiles hit the roof of a building, there were no casualties or injuries”, noted officials from the power structure. The launch site is currently being searched.

Baghdad’s Green Zone is a well-fortified area in the centre of the city where government buildings and foreign diplomatic missions are located. The area has always been the target of missile and mortar attacks, killing and injuring Iraqis. On 26 January, the Green Zone was attacked by five missiles, three of which landed directly on the premises of the American Embassy, one of which hit the canteen building where dinner was being served at the time. Washington has repeatedly accused the armed units supporting Iran operating in Iraq of being complicit in the attacks.
