Turkish Military Convoy Filmed in Incursion in Syria
DAMASCUS (Ruptly) — Dozens of Turkish military vehicles were filmed on a highway near the north-western Syrian city of Maarat al-Nu’man after the Turkish Defence Ministry said they had come under air attack on Monday. A Turkish MoD statement said three civilians were killed and 12 others wounded in an air strike on the convoy.
The Syrian government strongly condemns the Turkish military incursion into the country, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) which sites a source in the Syrian Foreign Ministry.
SANA’s report alleges that the Turkish military units are travelling en route to the city of Khan Sheikhoun, the scene of recent fighting between the Syrian Arab Army and militants. Damascus reportedly believes the convoy is carrying munitions bound for delivery to Jabhat al-Nusra militants operating in the area.
The ministry says the Turkish deployment into Syria was made in the wake of alleged threats to “the supply route to the Turkish Observation Point N° 9.”
