WASHINGTON (Satrapia) — In a series of tweets, the US President explained on Friday that he cancelled strikes that could have killed 150 people, which he considered disproportionate.

US President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that he cancelled Thursday night’s planned strikes on Iran at the last minute, as they reportedly caused many casualties and were disproportionate to him, information revealed earlier by the New York Times.

In a series of early morning tweets, Donald Trump said he cancelled the strikes, which were supposed to target three sites, “ten minutes” ahead of schedule, saying he was informed that they would kill “150 people” and that this was out of proportion to the attack against a US Navy drone. Trump added that he was not in a “hurry” to respond militarily to Iran, at a time when tensions are rising between the two countries.

After the fall of the drone, which Iran confirmed, Donald Trump initially approved retaliatory strikes against a handful of Iranian targets, such as radars and missile batteries, The New York Times reported, quoting a senior government official. According to the newspaper, the first phase of the operation had begun when it was cancelled. The planes were in the air and the ships in position, but had not yet fired any missiles when the order to stop fell. The White House initially refused to comment, before Donald Trump himself spoke on Twitter, his preferred channel.

Iran warned by Oman?
Donald Trump, on the other hand, did not mention any reports that the United States had warned Iran of imminent strikes via Oman. Tehran denied this on Friday. “America has sent no message through Oman for Iran”, said Keyvan Khosravi, spokesman for the Supreme Council of National Security, quoted by state television, “there is nothing true about it.”
