Tehran to Further Reduce its Nuclear Commitments
TEHRAN (Ruptly) — Iran has threatened to further reduce its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal if its European signatories fail to fulfil their promises within the next 30 days, according to the spokesperson of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Behrouz Kamalvandi speaking in Tehran on Monday.
Since May, Iran has exceeded its uranium enrichment level and surpassed its enriched uranium stockpile limit. “We are waiting for developments within this month”, said Kamalvandi adding that Tehran was getting ready for the third step in case of no developments. “The more we proceed, the more we are decreasing our commitments”, he added.
Iran announced in May that it was partially withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — the nuclear deal signed between Tehran and world powers in 2015. US President Donald Trump withdrew from the agreement last year re-imposing sanctions on Iran.
