LUXEMBOURG (SES press service) – SES announced today that it has signed a capacity agreement with Romantis, a global provider of satellite capacity and networking equipment, to support the growing connectivity needs across Russia and Central Asia.

SES (Paris:SESG, LuxX:SESG) is a major satellite operator with a fleet of 51 geostationary satellites. The company provides satellite communications services to broadcasters, content and internet service providers, mobile and fixed network operators and business and governmental organisations worldwide. SES holds participations in Ciel in Canada and QuetzSat in Mexico, as well as a strategic participation in satellite infrastructure start-up O3b Networks.

Romantis will utilise 24 MHz of Ku-band capacity on SES’ NSS-12 satellite at 57° East to deliver a variety of communication services across the region. With over 20 years of experience Romantis has developed bundled capacity and VSAT hardware packages that enable the delivery of corporate networks, broadband access, SCADA, GSM backhaul and video services.

“Companies in the fast-growing economies of Russia and the CIS are expanding their services rapidly and fuelling the demand for satellite capacity,” said Harald Stange, Managing Director and CEO of Romantis. “It is vital that we partner with a leading global satellite operator who has the technical expertise and is committed to growing with us. The high-powered NSS-12 satellite at 57° East offers excellent coverage over our core markets, allowing us to fulfil our customers’ needs.”

“We are pleased that Romantis has decided to come on board NSS-12. Romantis leads the way in developing innovative satellite solutions. SES’ premium satellite capacity will support Romantis in implementing its global expansion plans. We look forward to establishing a long-term working relationship with them,” said Norbert Hölzle, Senior Vice President Commercial Europe of SES.

Romantis is a vertically integrated group of companies with its head office in Berlin, Germany and operations worldwide. It is a major value-added reseller of satellite capacity and a manufacturer of satellite networking products. The Group manages more than 600 MHz of full-time satellite capacity around the world offering permanent and occasional use bandwidth.

Romantis designs, produces and markets the innovative UHP product – the industry’s first fully software-defined satellite router that can be used within networks of any size either as a hub or a remote and supports any topologies and modes of operation. Romantis also operates its own VSAT and HD/SD DVB platforms that can be used as VNO infrastructure by broadcasters, telecom providers and enterprises.
