Saudi Arabia, Qatar Near Agreement

NEW DLEHI (WION) — Qatar and Saudi Arabia are close to striking a preliminary agreement to end a dispute that has pitted the Gulf neighbours against each other for more than three years.

The expected deal comes after Jared Kushner advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in the Persian Gulf as part of a last-ditch effort to try and resolve the crisis. Earlier this week Kushner met with both the Saudi crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Ryadh and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in Doha.

Reports suggest that the main focus of the talks is to resolve the dispute allowing Qatari planes to fly over the Saudi Arabian airspace and the UAE. Reports also say that the imminent agreement would not involve the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt, which together with Saudi Arabia have formed a quartet of blockading countries against Qatar.
