Tuesday 15 October 2019

RIYADH (Ruptly) — Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed more than 20 agreements following bilateral talks in Riyadh on Monday.

The agreements include a charter regarding the long-term cooperation of oil-producing countries. According to Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, it will allow states “to carry out not only cooperation in the field of market regulation opportunities but also bilateral cooperation in the development of cooperation in the field of energy.”

Other agreements include a statement of intent between Roscosmos and the Saudi space commission on cooperation in the field of space financing and the global navigation satellite system GLONASS, and a memorandum simplifying visa issuance for citizens of both states.

Putin and King Salman also signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of culture and healthcare. After the talks with King Salman, Putin met with Saudi crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman al Saud.

This marks Putin’s first official visit to Saudi Arabia since 2007, with the Russian leader to continue his Middle East state call with a visit to the United Arab Emirates on October 15.
