PARIS (RTL) — French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has called for an “urgent meeting” of the international coalition to fight against the Islamic State (IS, alias ISIS, alias Daesh). This request follows Turkey’s assault in Syria against Kurdish forces.

Paris called on Thursday, October 10 for an “urgent meeting” of the international coalition under American command engaged in the fight against IS. “This international coalition must come together because we are in a new situation and because the fight against Daesh is in danger of resuming, because Daesh is only waiting for this opportunity to come out”, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told France 2.

Emmanuel Macron also called on Turkey to stop its assault. “Today, Turkey is forgetting that the priority of the international community in Syria is the fight against Daesh and terrorism”, said Emmanuel Macron. “This risk of helping Daesh to rebuild a caliphate and this humanitarian risk is the sole responsibility that Turkey takes before the rest of the international community”, the French president said.

“We are not helping Daesh”, replied however on RTL İsmail Hakkı Musa, Turkey’s ambassador to France, “We expect the countries of origin to receive their jihadists”, he asked, “but that doesn’t mean that Turkey on the spot will leave the jihadist elements in the wild.”
