Pakistan: Opposition Rally Ends in Violence in Lahore
LAHORE (Ruptly) — A rally held by supporters of Pakistan’s opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif turned violent in the city of Lahore on Thursday, as clashes erupted between protesters and police.
Police in riot gear used batons to stop Sharif’s supporters from entering an anti-graft tribunal, where the politician appeared before the court for a pre-trial hearing over alleged links to a multi-million dollars housing scam. Dozens were allegedly hurt and many detained, with the opposition parties demanding an immediate release of those caught to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.
