YEREVAN (TASS) — A brother of Armenia’s ex-president Serzh Sargsyan, Levon Sargsyan and his children, son Narek and daughter Ani, are suspected of unjust enrichment and tax evasion, the republic’s State Revenue Committee has said.

Narek Sargsyan

“During a search at Narek Sargsyan’s apartment, documents for a bank account were found, worth $6.8 mln and registered on the names of his father Levon Sargsyan and sister Ani Sargsyan”, the committee said in a statement. “Levon Sargsyan is an ambassador-at-large and, in line with the law, we was to mention this sum in his tax declaration.”

“Sargsyan’s family members — son Narek Sargsyan and daughter Ani Sargsyan — also failed to mention the above-mentioned sum in their tax declarations”, the statement reads.

“The investigative department of the Armenian State Revenue Committee launched a criminal case into tax evasion and unjust enrichment”, the committee said.

Since 1998, Levon Sargsyan worked as an ambassador to Syria, Tunisia and Jordan. In 2010, he was appointed ambassador-at-large.
